What is an Amish Mud Sale?

Amish mud sales are like outdoor auctions or giant yard sales that are typically held in the spring. They’re called mud sales because many of them are scheduled during the months when the winter frost is melting. The ground becomes a bit messy. There are Amish mud sales held in the summer, however.

Lancaster County mud sales feature items donated by the community and sold on consignment. Funds help support local fire companies.  They are well attended by members of the Amish community. It is a community known for supporting and participating in local volunteer fire companies.

What Can I Buy at a Lancaster County Mud Sale?

You’ll find old and new items, as well as large and small. Some mud sales auction off building materials and farm equipment as well as handmade Amish quilts, furniture, and more. What might be most alluring are the baked goods, soft pretzels, slow-roasted chicken, and other delicious food items available at most mud sales.

The Lancaster County Carriage & Antique Auction, slated for June 23-24 this year, includes equine equipment, carriages, antiques, collectibles, and even miniature horses and ponies.
